The Burlington Minor Lacrosse Association might be the largest in Canada, and could even be the largest in the world.
With more than 1,000 players registered in house league and rep leagues for field and box lacrosse, the sport is in good hands in Burlington – but that brings with it, its own set of challenges.
“Our registration has increased by about 50 per cent since 2019,” BMLA president Adam Kennedy said. “With that growth, we’ve had trouble finding volunteers. We’re an entirely volunteer based organization, nobody – including coaches – is paid.”
Additionally, finding time to host games locally is more and more of a challenge with more and more players wanting to get on the floor…
…In spite of those challenges, the BMLA continues to see record turnout in rep programs as other municipalities are struggling to field a team.
…Kennedy emphasized that lacrosse is a sport for everyone, regardless of height or body type. As other sports such as basketball or volleyball favour taller players, lacrosse rosters have a spot for everyone.
