Boy's Rep Field Lacrosse (OMFLL)

What is Field Lacrosse?
Field lacrosse is a fast-paced, outdoor team sport played on a large field. Each team works together to move the ball up the field, pass, and score goals while defending their own net. Players use a lacrosse stick to catch, cradle, pass, and shoot the ball, developing hand-eye coordination, agility, and focus.
A typical field lacrosse team includes:
-
1 Goalkeeper – protects the net and directs the defense
-
Defenders – protect the goal and try to stop opposing attackers; many defenders use long poles, which are longer sticks that give them extra reach to check, intercept passes, and control space on defense
-
Midfielders – cover the whole field, supporting both offense and defense
-
Attackers – focus on scoring goals and creating offensive opportunities
Games encourage teamwork, communication, and strategy, while helping kids build confidence, fitness, and sportsmanship. The game moves quickly, with plenty of action for every player on the field.
Field lacrosse is a fun and safe way for kids of all skill levels to learn a new sport, stay active, and make friends. It’s also a great complement to box lacrosse, giving players more room to run, develop positioning, and experience a slightly different style of play.

U17 |
For these age groups, games are played 10-on-10 on a full field, with one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three attackers.
Rosters are typically 15–20 players, ensuring each team can be effectively fielded while giving everyone plenty of opportunities to play. |
Tryouts:
The spring field lacrosse season is a "Rep" program. Information on expectation for tryouts can be seen HERE.
However, the concept of our program being Rep should not scare away new participants. It is recommended new players have some previous lacrosse experience, but field lacrosse experience is not mandatory to start playing with us since the rules and gameplay are easily learned.
The BMLA evaluates a team's talent yearly to ensure they are rated correctly to play equal competition. Additionally, the OMFLL uses the MyLAX Rankings to reseed teams after a few weeks of play in order to rebalance league play.
There are many good reasons to consider playing field lacrosse:
- Outdoor play in spring weather.
- Larger playing field emphasizes the ability to find space.
- As players get older the game emphasizes position specific skills. The result is a position for all players regardless of speed, size or skillset. There is a role for everyone!
